Ang Flue-Gas Desulfurization (FGD) process employs a number of technologies to remove sulfur dioxide (SO2) from coal-fired power plant flue gas emissions. FGD systems were created in response to the exhaust – flue gases – from fossil fuel-burning plants, primarily coal-burning plants, which posed an environmental and human health hazard.
The process of FGD is designed to absorb the sulfur dioxide in the flue gas before it is released. This is accomplished through either a wet or a dry process.
